WHAT TO SAY TODAY

Writer's picture: Sandra BashawSandra Bashaw

Dear Friends,

I'm having a hard time writing to you today. Having a hard time time deciding what to say and I don't know why. OK, I've had breakthrough in the writing of my next book, so I've spent a lot of time & energy on that. But that's a good thing, so there must be another reason.

Angst.

Oh crap. It's probably angst. So what's that about? Let's see . . . I think I've got sciatica so maybe that discomfort is making it hard to sit at my computer? Worried about the upcoming election? Multiple weird dreams about being threatened by bad guys? Digging through old journals for some song I started a long time ago which I can't find but suddenly I seem to need to finish? Worrying about the health of the planet we're leaving to our children and grandchildren? Hoping that my guitar hands will keep working for a few more years? Missing my brother? Wondering how to get the back yard gardens ready for winter when vertigo makes it a challenge? Or could it be the recent long nights when our skinny, ancient kitty with dementia cries and there's nothing we can do but put him in our bed and hope he stays and sleeps through the night and doesn't throw up on us?

My usual go-to tricks haven't been working – reciting my mantra, doing some stretching exercise, reviewing reiki symbols, playing guitar, vodka on the rocks.

The only thing that's worked to relieve angst (so far, for me) is re-watching the 1999-2006 series, The West Wing. Seven seasons. Fast paced, great writing and character development. Fabulous cast, several of whom are from Dayton – Yay! Some afternoons I watch just to see a President who is erudite, funny, principled, loves his wife and family, and is presidential.

Oh.

Maybe that's it.

What you wrote is more than enough. The sun shines everyday even though some days we do not see it.

I hear you! The election, Gaza, less daylight, some family stuff, and weird dreams. I find comfort in knowing there are many caring hearts in the world, much healing energy, and others daring to feel hope. Onward through the fog!
